Join me for an online poetry evening SUNDAY MAY 12th 2024 6PM AEST

I’m supporting Amber Community to Shine a Light on Road Safety for the month of May. I will be reading a selection of poems I have written whilst coming to terms with my injuries and life in general post car crash.  Any donation -large or small- will be welcomed to raise vital funds in supporting people impacted by road trauma; honouring loved ones; and in advocating for road safety. Many thanks.

My Story

Sunday 14th Apr
Back in May 2020, I wasn't aware that this very month had a week dedicated to road safety awareness.  Somewhat ironically, that was the month that my life was suddenly turned on it's head, all because a stranger made a judgement error.  And according to TAC (Traffic Accident Victoria) statistics, most road deaths are the result of driver error, rather than a criminal act.

I was fortunate to survive the crash.  I unknowingly walked from the car to the central reservation and then to the stretcher with a bilateral C2 fracture- the spine was fractured on both sides, but they remained in place. Following a few months of flashbacks and other post traumatic symptoms, I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  I also suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash and the symptoms of this persist to this day- now diagnosed as Post Concussion Syndrome.

Money raised during the month of May by fundraisers will go towards support for those affected by car crashes in Victoria- both those involved and those who have lost loved ones.  Amber Community also provides driver safety seminars to provide education on road safety, including testimony from volunteers affected by road trauma.

I am coming to terms with the affects of that day through the help of an incredible support network- and writing poetry. It helps me to make sense of my injuries and the changes to my life.  I will be hosting an online poetry reading of some of my work to share my story and to help raise funds for Amber Community- there will be no set charge for attendance, but donations will be appreciated and 100% will go to Amber Community.

I write my poetry for my healing, but I hope that by raising my voice I will help other crash survivors feel heard.

I hope you can join me on SUNDAY 12TH MAY 2024 6PM AEST.  Details and link to follow x
